Today I had a great conversation with Tommy Edwards, a close friend of our dear board member and longtime friend Amber Dewar. Tommy, a fine musician (hear his music at www.myspace.com/tommyedwards) who lives near Blacksburg, Virginia, where the horrible shootings took place at Virginia Tech, has established the Heart of Virginia Foundation to help provide psychiatric care for those in the community who were terribly affected by tragedy. This is a very worthy cause and Tommy and I both agreed that media needs to spend more time focusing on the issues of the bereaved families than they do, because their agenda is to almost exclusively explore who the perpetrator was. When Tommy's website is established we will have articles from him here as well as links to his website. In Tommy's own words:

Quote:
So I moved back to Virginia, and the orginazational framework had been assembeled. We at the Heart of Virginia Foundation are thrilled to announce that we are making major headway with the event. We meet with Lynard Skynards people and are awaiting a responce. We have also been contacted by an artist, I am not at liberty to say who, but I will say he like the ocean a lot. On anouther note, I'm going in Oct, to a party at John Stockton's house in San Diego, and meeting with a number of entertainment folks. Wow, life has a way of smacking you sideways sometimes. My beloved home and my playground ripped apart by violance. Virginia Tech was my home for two years as I lived on campus. I spent much of my youth at football camps, skateboarding on campus, and visiting friends and family on campus. I have been deeply affected by what happened at Tech on april 16th of 2007. I am starting a campaign to raise 1 million dollars in the next year to set up a foundation to provide long term mental health care for police, rescue personel, and the general public who were affected by this tragedy. I'll be releasing a CD including music inspired by the events, seeing t shirts and promotional items, and orginizing a benefit concert for the spring of 2008. If you are interested in helping please feel free to contact me. Thanks Tommy

Way to go, friend Tommy! And thanks, Amber!

With love,
Dave
